INTERFACE AND COMPUTER QUESTIONS

RAM-10000 Systems

Q. I would like to obtain Labview drivers for the RAM-10000 system. Do you provide them?

A. At the present time, we do not have Labview drivers for the RAM-10000 system. Labview drivers for the ADAC board itself are available directly from ADAC and can be found at the following link: http://www.adac.com/LabVIEW/LabVIEW.html

Q. The version of the RAM-10000 control software that I have is DOS based. I would like a version that runs under windows. Do you have a Visual Basic program?

A. At the present time, we do not have a visual basic version of the software. The current DOS-based program, while antiquated, runs under Windows 95 and 98 without difficulty. ADAC does currently provide drivers for their cards for Visual Basic. The drivers can be found at the following link:
http://www.adac.com/catpages/adlibwin.html

Q. Does the RAM-10000 control program run under Windows NT or Windows 2000?

A. The current program does not run under Windows NT, as the drivers were not available previously. Windows NT or 2000 prevents programs from communicating with interface cards directly. Currently there are two drivers available from ADAC to communicate with the card under Labview or Visual Basic. They can be found at the following links: http://www.adac.com/catpages/adlibnt.html

Q. I just replaced my computer with a new computer which only has a PCI interface. My current ADAC card is ISA based. Can I purchase a PCI card for use with my system?

A. We have been communicating with ADAC about this issue. We have evaluated PCI cards, but have found them to be greatly more expensive. The particular solution will depend on which power frame is used in your system. The card which we will be evaluating for use with the RAM-10000 system can be seen at the following link: http://www.adac.com/catpages/pci5500.html As of December 1, 2000, the board is still undergoing testing but it is not expected to be available until February 1, 2000. For further assistance, please contact RITEC, as the exact solution will depend on the particular version of your RAM-10000 system. We are currently testing a replacement PCI digital acquisition board for use with the RAM-5000 systems replacing the ADAC-5632 card.

Q. I am interested in using the GPIB interface with my RAM system so that I can control other instruments as well as my RAM. Is it available?

A. We have made several interface adapters for the RAM-10000 systems configured as Mark IV systems that consist of a pulser and broadband receiver. In this configuration, all the communication between the RAM and the computer is digital. However, this solution is not very elegant and most customers have used the ADAC-5525 interface. For new orders, we recommend you consider the RAM-5000 system that can be configured with an internal GPIB interface card and can be controlled through the GPIB interface.
